🛠️ Installation Guide: Flash via TF Card (SD Card)

The easiest way to install the system to the internal eMMC is by using a TF card as a bridge.

Requirements:

  • A PC running Windows.

  • A TF Card (MicroSD) between 8GB and 32GB (Class 10 or higher).

  • A TF card reader.

  • SD_Firmware_Tool (Rockchip utility).

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Image: Extract the downloaded .zip file until you have a raw .img file.

  2. Flash the Card: Open SD_Firmware_Tool, select your TF card, tick the “Upgrade Firmware” box, and load your .img file. Click “Create”.

  3. Install to eMMC: Insert the flashed TF card into the Station M2. Power it on. You will see an “Installing system update” progress bar.

  4. Finalize: Once the bar finishes, remove the TF card. The device will automatically reboot into the new Android 11 system.

⚠️ Advanced: Switching Upgrade Storage (Maskrom Mode)

The Firefly Station M2 contains both eMMC and NOR Flash. If you enter Maskrom Mode, the system may default to the small NOR Flash, causing a “Download Firmware Fail” error because the storage is too small.

How to Force Download to eMMC:

If your device is stuck or you accidentally flashed the NOR Flash, follow these steps using RKDevTool:

  1. Download Boot: In the Advanced Function tab of RKDevTool, select your MiniLoaderAll.bin and click Download.

  2. List Storage: Click List Storage to see the detected media.

  3. Erase Nor-Flash: Select SPINOR from the list and click EraseAll.

  4. Switch to eMMC: Select Emmc in the list and click Switch Storage. The status should change from 0 to √.

  5. Upgrade: Go back to the Upgrade Firmware tab and proceed with the full firmware installation.

CAUTION & DISCLAIMER

Update at your own risk. Firmware updates are sensitive operations. If interrupted or performed on the wrong hardware, it can brick your device permanently.

  • Always back up your data before starting.

  • Ensure a stable power supply during the process.

  • Only perform this update if you are experiencing specific issues or require the new features mentioned above.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Why does my device show a “GPT Header signature wrong” error?

This indicates corrupted data in the NOR Flash. You must erase the NOR Flash using the mtd erase nor0 command in U-Boot or via the RKDevTool “EraseAll” function in Maskrom mode.

  2. Can I use a 64GB or 128GB SD Card?

For flashing purposes, Rockchip tools work most reliably with cards 32GB or smaller formatted to FAT32. High-capacity cards may fail to be recognized during the bootloader phase.
